Born in Washington, D.C., in 1945, Goldie Hawn's career was originally focused in the dance arena. She danced in the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo production of The Nutcracker in 1955. Her first on-stage debut was in the Virginia Shakespeare Festival production of Romeo and Juliet in 1961. Hawn originally majored in drama at American University, but later dropped out to run a professional ballet school. She later became a successful go-go dancer in New York before rising to star status as a beautiful blond it-girl actress. Hawn went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1969 for her performance in Cactus Flower.
