It's natural that some of these famous people have decided to become recluses in order to get away from it all. There are more famous recluses in Hollywood than you would think - not all celebrities love being in the spotlight. Some of these celebrities become intensely private after they retired from show business, while others have been reclusive throughout their careers. One of the biggest movie stars of all time is even a recluse.
Who is the most famous recluse? Johnny Depp tops our list. The Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has admitted to being a recluse. In a 2010 interview he said, "I don’t leave the house anymore. If it isn’t necessary I don’t go anywhere. I stay at home. I’m adamant when it comes to that." Two extremely popular talk show hosts, David Letterman and Johnny Carson, are also recluses.
Lauryn Hill was dubbed a recluse during her 12-year absence from the music scene, but she described the period as her time being a "stay-at-home mom." Terrence Malick is so reclusive that he doesn't attend premieres for his films, or even go to events during which he will be honored. Other famous recluses include Axl Rose, David Bowie, and Bobby Fischer.
