2015 is the year Gen-X-ers on the older end of the spectrum hit the big 5-0! Which musicians and rock stars are turning 50 in 2015? Members of Generation X were born between the years 1965 and 1978 (give or take a year, depending on your source). Known as the “sandwich generation,” they are a dark horse demographic sandwiched between 80 million baby boomers and 78 million millennials. In 2015, they're starting to get real old, with lots of famous musicians turning 50 left and right.
Despite being eclipsed by the sheer numbers and popular culture of those surrounding them, X-ers have carved out an esteemed niche musically. Their influence continues to permeate listening patterns, even today. Remember – grunge, hip hop, and alternative all gained prominence during the years when those in Gen X were the demographic.
Nineties music icons including Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, and Bjork are all turning 50 in 2015. If that’s not enough to make you wonder where the years went, former NWA rapper, music mogul and Beats creator Dr. Dre now graces the cover of AARP (well, in a birthday Tweet by the organization, anyway).
So, sit back, relax, and check out this list of rockers, rappers, singer-songwriters, and notable musicians who are blowing out 50 candles on their birthday cakes in 2015. While some will be a little better known to you than others, all will surely surprise you and might make you feel a little old (though not as old as you'll feel when you learn which celebrities are turning 60 in 2015!).
